Fashion Shoot (Plan)

How To Organised a Fashion Shoot
Planning
Planning takes a vital role within a fashion shoot, a lot of time is consumed, therefore organisation and time management is essential.

  • Final Garment
  • Meet the model
  • Model Fitting
  • Changes final garment Finished
  • Plan photo shoot
  • Meeting photographer
  • Meeting MUA
  • Photo shoot
In order to create and organised a good shoot is fundamental that you take into consideration the following steps, which are:
  • Concept Theme
  • Final Garment
  • Search for the model/garment fitting
  • Plan photo shoot/ arrange location
  • Meeting up with photographer and MUA
  • Photo Shoot
Concept Theme
  • It is one of the most important things that I need to consider before I plan anything else. It will then lead to other choices like, make up, location and type of the model. It can start with most simplistic thing then develop to what you have in mind and your vision.
  • Despite of how you organised or conduct the fashion shoot, it will end up with an idea being which is great for portfolio/fashion promotion.
  • Coming up with theme it is time consuming, as most of the times, you need to relate to your initial research, so you will get the idea.
Final Garment
  • It is constructed based on the research and inspirations as well as the other materials included.
Search for the Model/Garment Fitting
  • In this point you need to search for the model according to the characteristics for the garment, for example: slim, plus size, big breasts, tattoos or piercing. Is important because it will determine whether or nor appropriate for the photo shoot and theme. So then after the approval you can move forward with fitting.
Plan photo shoot (location)
  • Soon as the garment is almost complete, then the next worry is to arrange photo shoot and location where will take place, it has to be well thought as everything has to be linked from MUA, to garment.
Meeting with Photographer and MUA
  • The final decisions will be made in order to create an amazing day and look.
Photo shoot
  • Organisation from the teams and model is essential, in order for the day to go smooth. Also the model punctuality has to be super good so the things get started early and on time.

Futuristic In fashion

Futuristic In Circus

I created this mood board, in order to meet the brief criteria of the Circus of Cabaret. I inspired through different types of designers, colors, architectures and how possibly fashion could be seen in future in relation to Circus.
The mood board is structure with large garments that contain geometric shapes, I could link that to my brief (Circus of Cabaret), as the garments that they use are big, noticeable and it is what makes them attractive. I also included different types of architectures, which links to the geometric shapes that I will include in the garments, the colors used in this moldboard are related to the space and to the style board that I created.

The Buffalo magazine 2009, did a report about Fashion and Circus, which perfectly falls into my category as the designer also used geometric shapes.

I stretched my research by looking at fashion designers that use geometry in their garments, which gave me more ideas for my outcome. The pictures below show a photo shoot of a model wearing different types of shapes mainly triangular and pyramids. The unknown designer is focus in designing and his architectural inspiration, he is are also concerned of the looks, and playing around with space and different shapes.

I also looked at clothes and specific buildings that look a like, that may have been inspirational to designers.
Even though fashion designers and architects are working on two completely different scales, this artists are practicing design while dealing with space, structure, material, and obviously what is good in the public eye. There are difference between the two in size, scale and material. Architects need to work with hard structure to create monumental pieces of art, in order hand fashion designers use light and different materials to make their garments.

Architectural Fashion

Architectural Fashion is related, to how designers manipulate fabrics, is more structural way. It also involves using fabrics, as building materials to create different shapes. Is all about structure and shape and designers are also concerned with 3D elements to clothes.

I went on researching different types of architectural geometry designs which I could possibly relate and link into my brief.

The geometry and composition of the towers is inspired by the dramatic surrounding land and seascapes.

Givenchy

Givenchy Resort 2013 collection with silken paisley prints and patchworked with geometric shapes, in very solid tones such as black, white and red. The intention of the collection was to create visual drama and designers trademark laser sharp tailoring.

The looks of the Givenchy collections have inspired me in the way that, I can pretty much mix the geometry and the circus.

The materials that I am considering to use in order to represent the theme in my garment for the Circus Cabaret are: paper, card, metals, plastics and wood.
As a practice and ideas development, I decided to do sample illustrations with non fabric materials.

In these experiment I used foam board, to create the shapes and designs inspired in my illustrations and designs, also used wire to hold both sides.

With these experiments I used the foam card used in the previous experiment and add on paper card, again following the designs of my illustrations.

In these experiments I mainly used card, foam card cut into small geometric pieces.

This final sample I used all the foam card pieces and put together by using wire and card board.

I expanded my research by taking my pictures of modern buildings in Manchester.

What is Make Do and Mend?

Make = Make something new.

Do = Make Do with.

Mend = Repair Fix

Rationing
  • Mend
  • Patchwork.
  • Turned into New
Make Do and Mend
  • Upcycling.
  • Recycling.
  • Recreation.

What is in fashion in the 1940's?

'Civilians clothes took on a military style in keeping with the atmosphere of the time'.
'Shortages of leather and petrol rationing meant that thick cork wedge and sturdy shoes were the most practical so we could walk in comfort. (quoted from ' 50 Years of Everyday fashion, by Sheena Harvey)
'We could get clogs without having to hand over coupons but these were hardly designed for elegance'  (quoted from '50 Years of everyday fashion, by Sheena Harvey)'.

What Jobs did women do in the 1940's?

'Clothes had to be practical if you were working in a factory or on farm'. (quoted from '50 Years of Everyday fashion, by Sheena Harvey)

How did the war effected fashion?

'As the fabrics became scarce and clothing factories joined the war effort, we had to make the most of the clothes we already had, repairing and adapting where we could'. (quoted from '50 Years of Fashion, by Sheena Harvey).

What is rationing?

'I fear that unless either supplies are increased, or the distubution of existing supplies is equalised, some part of the population will have to go short of clothing'. quoted from '50 years of Fashion, by Sheena Harvey)
'At the begining of rationing you got 66 points a year, by the end that numberhad recuded to 48'.
(quoted from '50 Years of Fashion, by Sheena Harvey).

What is Make Do and Mend?

'Recyclimg is not new concept, sixty-five years ago it was what we did to ensure our families looked respectable and kept warm'. (quoted from ' 50 Years of Fashion). In that era they up cycled almost, every piece of fabric that they could turn into new outfit. The government actually run the a classes where they learnt  from scratch how to turn old curtains, sheets and pillow cases into wearable dresses, skirts and blouses, old jumpers were also needed to provide wool and blankets. If lucky to find parachutes they could also make some glamorous underwear.

In my Point of view the 1940s was very affected by the war,as some trends were prohibited to be launched because of the war, including outside of Europe. Because WWII , American designers, who were often overlooked, became more popular and upgraded their skills by introducing care labels into garments.
The major factor to impact fashion in 1940s was the accessibility of the fabrics. Most of the fabrics weren't availability due to the war time, which limited the productions of new garments.
“For instance, starting in 1942 there was a limited supply of wool; so, instead artificial fibers such as viscose and rayon were used, which were derived from wood pulp.” Nylon, the fabric used to make stockings, was also part of the synthetic fabrics that were popular during the 1940’s. However, as WWII progressed, “the use of these fabrics was for military purposes, such as making parachutes.” (Quoted from http://www.acsu.buffalo.edu/~mwaltos/lis506/project/1940s/fashion.html, clear explanation of the fabrics used in 1940s).
Most of the colors seen and used in 1940s, reflected the atmosphere of the war time, that is the reason dark tones were used such as black, navy, grey, khaki and brown.
In that time fabrics and money were very limited, so local magazines and newspaper articles encourage women to re use clothing that they already had. Traditional techniques like sewing, stitching and knitting were popular ways to create and up cycle new clothes.
Men also had their own fashion putting in place, which also reflected the wartime era. They wore suits made of rationed materials, V necks sweater vests or knitted waistcoats over a shirt and tie. The dark tones persisted, until the end of the war. Once the war ended new fashion trends appeared, such as Christian Dior's 'New Look', which became popular in 1950's.
My overall opinion consists of Remarkable era of intense war and very difficult and critical times, for the population and the country.
